About Us
Kin Midwives is an exclusively home visiting midwifery practice in Kitsap County, independently owned and operated by midwife Louisa Severn and her wife Jennifer Severn.
Louisa Wales Severn LM, CPM has served Kitsap and surrounding counties for 10 years, attending births in homes, freestanding birth centers and in hospitals in the US and abroad. As one of the community’s longest serving midwives, Louisa enjoys an established reputation as a thorough, careful and skilled provider. She provides the highest quality, evidence-based midwifery care throughout the perinatal period, including lab tests and ultrasounds, physician consultation with trusted colleagues as necessary, and well newborn care.
Kin Midwives is intentionally a small, intimate practice. Kin Midwives only cares for a small number of clients a year, so we can focus on providing exceptional care and on the relationships built between midwife and the families we serve.
A graduate of the Seattle Midwifery School (now Bastyr University), Louisa built the largest group midwifery practice and only midwife owned and run birth center in Kitsap County. In 2017 she realized that high volume, insurance based healthcare isn’t good for people - birthing people or providers. She Ieft that practice and stepped away for a couple of years, only catching babies for a tiny handful of beloved returning clients while she stretched into the world of high-tech fertility medicine (IVF and frozen embryo transfers). In the quiet of COVID-19 isolation, she and Jennifer (a longtime area birth assistant) decided it was time to return to midwifery practice, but with a simultaneously ancient and radical twist in our modern healthcare landscape: low volume, no insurance, all home-visits, and the relationships built between midwife and client.
